Wembley Stadium celebrates its annual Green Week

Wembley Stadium celebrates Green Week

Since the new Wembley Stadium opened in 2007, we've worked hard to make improvements across our environmental 'priority areas'. We're proud to say our hard work has paid off. Our achievements have been recognised with a host of highly coveted environmental awards and certifications.

There's no doubt that our success is down to the commitment and determination of our staff. To celebrate their achievements, The FA Group Green Team last week hosted our annual Green Week, now in its fifth year.

The week saw Wembley and The FA staff take on an array of demanding challenges to highlight the Stadium's key environmental impacts: water, transport, waste and energy. Challenges included a commuter fitness challenge, a community volunteer day at St Luke's Hospice, a Dr Bike Workshop and even an Energy Referee, who handed out red cards to people who left electronic equipment switched on.

Green Week concluded with the Green Week Expo, where Wembley and The FA's partners, local businesses and the local community showcased their environmental initiatives. We were also delighted to welcome some of our local primary schools: Oakington Manor, Uxendon Manor and Wembley Primary, as well as UCFB students James Willcocks and Lorenz Essing, who played a key role, designing new marketing materials for the Green Team, which were revealed at the Expo.

Speaking about the event and our achievements in sustainability Roger Maslin, Managing Director of Wembley Stadium, said,

"Wembley has been improving its environmental performance since we first opened in 2007. Today I am proud to say that Wembley and The FA are leading the industry, by putting environmental sustainability at the heart of our vision and business objectives."

"Wembley is now globally recognised for its award-winning Environmental Management System and we are also the first stadium to get the treble Carbon Trust Standard and the Three Star Industry Green Award. I'm sure you'll agree that this is an outstanding achievement."

"It is truly important that businesses recognise businesses' collective responsibility to society and our environment.  I hope that we continue to lead the way and leave a positive environmental legacy for our shared future."
