Band mates become rock rivals for the FA Cup Final

It might seem like all is harmonious in the band Editors when they play together but, this weekend, that will be far from the truth.

Two members of the band are set to clash as their teams go head to head at Wembley Stadium connected by EE in the FA Cup Final.

Brummie-born bassist Russell Leetch is a passionate fan of hometown club Aston Villa while singer Tom Smith avidly follows their opponents Arsenal.

It won’t surprise you to discover they both have very different views when asked how this weekend’s game will go.

“1-1 then penalties, Arsenal win,” said Tom anticipating a difficult afternoon for his side.

Russell, on the other hand, is a bit more confident: “2-0 Aston Villa. Villa haven’t been in one for 15 years so it is massive this year.

“It’s always good when The Final takes place, history and magic.”

The magic of the FA Cup is one thing both men can agree on and Tom says that Cup Final day always takes him back to his youth.

”I always remember spending hours with all the pre-match build up on telly when I was younger and the image of a buzzing Wembley split into two colours still excites me,” he said.

But what about this season’s competition? Is there a moment from their respective runs to the 2015 FA Cup Final which both men will cherish?

“Beating Manchester United up at Old Trafford definitely, Welbeck scoring the winner ... and celebrating. Amazing,” said Tom instantly.

Russell’s response was equally as adamant: “Beating West Brom at Villa Park for the second time in a week” he said recalling the Birmingham side’s quarter-final triumph over their West Midlands rivals.

Once the small matter of this weekend’s FA Cup Final is out of the way Tom and Russell must turn their attentions to the release of their new album and the upcoming tour which will accompany it.

And Tom says there is one Arsenal player he would like with him on that tour.

“Per Mertesacker could be our tour manager,” he said.

“He’s slow and methodical, polite, well-spoken, organised, has a presence when he walks into a room. All qualities our tour manager lacks. Sorry Mal, if you're reading!”
