Sheeran earns Wembley match ball
Ed Sheeran on Sunday night achieved something that only Wembley Stadium legends such as Sir Geoff Hurst can claim as he completed his own Wembley hat-trick.
Sheeran played three consecutive sold-out nights at the national stadium and Wembley decided to commemorate the achievement the same way a footballer would be honoured, with a hat-trick ball presented to Sheeran at the third show of his amazing triple bill.
Wembley Stadium has welcomed some of the biggest names in music over the years, including U2, Coldplay and Take That, and Ed Sheeran will comfortably sit alongside these legends of music forever more.
Ed Sheeran’s three nights saw around 250,000 people watch his unique brand of music, the electric atmosphere and singing down Olympic Way was testament to what has been three breath-taking shows.
Speaking after the presentation, Wembley’s Music and New Events Manager Danielle Russell said: “Wembley is known worldwide as being an iconic venue for music and sport. We have an extremely proud music history and are delighted that Ed has added to that with three incredible nights at the stadium. We couldn’t be prouder to have hosted Ed Sheeran, and worked with Kilimanjaro and DHP Family to make this happen at Stadium status. The 'hat-trick' ball is something that we hope symbolises such a momentous achievement, but also Ed becoming a special part of this stadium's history”.
