Courtois celebrates making the Capital One Cup Final

Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois says playing at Wembley in the Capital One Cup final will be a special experience - if he can keep his place ahead of Petr Cech.

The Belgian international was in goal for both legs of Chelsea’s semi-final against Liverpool, but Cech was recalled by Jose Mourinho for the recent Premier League win over Everton.

However the 22-year-old hopes he has done enough to prove to his boss he warrants a starting berth against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

“It was a very hard semi-final against Liverpool, the two games were really difficult,” he said.

“I was happy with my performances against them. Obviously in that time the team needed me.

“If you can be important for the team and help them get to the final, together with the other players, you’re happy with that.

“Hopefully we can finish it at Wembley.”

After three years on loan at Atletico Madrid, Courtois is looking to make his Wembley bow this weekend.

Despite not having appeared under the arch before he says he has been told by his team-mates what to expect.

“Everyone told the new guys, including me, that playing at Wembley is really special, especially a final,” he said.

“As a football player you want to play in the biggest stadiums in the world, the important grounds.

“It will be a great game.”

Chelsea face London rivals Spurs in the final and the North London side inflicted the Blues’ first Premier League defeat of the season when the two last met on New Year’s Day.

For that, Courtois wants revenge.

“At home we beat them 3-0 but we then had one of our worst games of the season and lost 5-3,” he said.

“It will definitely be good to take revenge on them otherwise we will have to wait until next season to play them again.”
