George Groves believes that following the success of his fight with Carl Froch it is now the ambition of every boxer to fight at Wembley Stadium.

St George returns to the ring on Saturday for the first time since his eighth round defeat to the IBF and WBA super middleweight champion in May when he faces Christopher Rebrasse in a WBC final eliminator at the SSE Arena.

But ‘The Saint’ admits he’s already eyeing up another date next door at Wembley Stadium.

“100% I want to fight at Wembley again,” he told WembleyStadium.com.

“I’m fighting for the European title and in a WBC final eliminator so I’m back on the world scene.

“So I’ll be challenging for the WBC and if I can win that then, who knows, I could be back at Wembley in the summer having another big unification clash.”

However, the former Commonwealth super middleweight champion says he is not the only boxer who is desperate for a fight under the arch.

Froch v Groves 2 undoubtedly captured the public’s imagination and Groves believes the theatre and occasion of Wembley’s first fight since 1995 has put the English national stadium back on the map as one of the world’s greatest boxing venues.

“It was a history making fight,” he reflected on that night in May.

“That fight made waves all over the world, there are now a lot of Americans who want to come over here.

“When I was growing up you wanted to box at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas and places like that, but now maybe people want to headline Wembley Stadium because it’s a fantastic place to box, in fact it’s a fantastic place to be whatever you are doing.

“I think it’s now an ambition of all kids and all pros to fight here.

“You’ve got Amir Khan and Kell Brook talking about fighting here, maybe you’ll have Anthony Joshua in a few years fighting for a World title against a Kitschko here.

“Everyone wants a piece but I think only very special fights will be able to make it to Wembley.

 “I will certainly be back.”

Groves is determined to return to the ring with a bang against Christopher Rebrasse this weekend.

The Saint was unbeaten prior to his two fights with Froch but the Londoner admits he knows where things went wrong against in those bouts and says he will be ready for the European champion come Saturday.

“I had myself up after seven rounds against Carl and the fight was going the way we planned it to,” said Groves.

“It was a one punch finish and credit to Carl Froch because he found it.

“You literally have to take it on the chin, get back in the gym and you work towards the next opportunity.

“I feel good ahead of Saturday and I want to be boxing.

“I’ve got happy memories of Wembley Arena after defending my title there a couple of years ago so it will be good to get back.”
