Zamora: This is what you dream of
Bobby Zamora says his injury time winner at Wembley which sent QPR back to the Premier League is the stuff of dreams but the big striker feels there was an air of predestination about the strike too.
Zamora came on as a second half substitute for Kevin Doyle just moments before Gary O’Neil was dismissed for the R’s.
And he told WembleyStadium.com after the game that it had been foretold to him that he would have a big say in the outcome of the game.
“This is what you dream of. A lot of people said to me, ‘you’ll play your part in the final’ but you take that with a pinch of salt,” Zamora said following the final whistle.
"I’ve come off the bench the last few games to score goals and set up goals. People said I’d get my chance in this one. I’m pleased it’s happened.”
Zamora’s goal was a first time strike after a mistake by Derby’s Richard Keogh.
He admitted afterward that it was one of those goals he didn’t even have to think about.
“The goal was just instinct. I’ve done it for years. The side of the net was there for me and it was just a matter of hitting the target,” said the jubilant striker.
“I’m pleased for the lads, it’s been a tough year.”
“We were expected to win the league easily but we’ve had our ups and downs.”
“But the togetherness in the squad was shown once again today and we’re back in the Premier league.”
And Zamora went on to tell us that the spirit within the squad was the difference in a tight game at Wembley.
“To be fair before the game I said, ‘we’re never going to lose this’.”
“The togetherness has seen us through and it’s a great feeling to have won.”
