Froch-and-Groves face off on the Wembley pitch

George Groves has boldly predicted he will knock Carl Froch out within three rounds when the pair meet at Wembley Stadium on 31 May.

When they clashed in Manchester back in November the fight was controversially stopped in the ninth round. This time the challenger is confident the pair's second meeting will only last a third as long and that he will come out on top this time round.

He said, “You can expect fireworks, it’s going to be a great night and you’re in for a brutal night of boxing. This is a three round fight, this is Hagler v Hearns. Carl Froch is in for a torrid time!”

The fight will be the first Wembley has hosted since Frank Bruno became WBC Heavyweight Champion back in 1995 and Groves hopes that fighting at the National Stadium will see his way into the history books.

“I hope one day I’m remembered as a great fighter." added Groves "This could be fate that I’m going to be crowned World Champion in my home town at Wembley Stadium in a record breaking fight.”

The latter is already guaranteed as the fight is now certain to be in front of a record breaking post-war crowd for a British fight.

60,000 tickets were snapped up within the space of an hour this afternoon meaning the bout has already surpassing the 55,000 who watched Ricky Hatton face Juan Lazcano back in 2008.

But Groves says the size of the crowd does not intimidate him.

“Crowds don’t really affect me but it’ll be great to watch it back after and see the cameras pan out to a sea of heads and cheering fans.”

“It’ll be a great night. I don’t know what to expect because I don’t think there’s a fighter in the country who knows what it’s like to fight in front of a capacity Wembley Stadium crowd.”

“We’re hoping to make history and I’m chuffed to be a part of it.”
