Johnson promises Wembley fans the classics
AC/DC will return to the road and Wembley Stadium this summer, six years on from their sold-out gig in 2009 and font-man Brian Johnson and guitarist Angus Young could not be happier about it.
The iconic singer says he’s itching to get back on the stage but was quick to point out that next year will be more than just another tour.
“It’s exciting because it’s been basically 40 years since the band’s inception with Malcolm and Angus,” said Johnson.
“I’m looking forward to this tour more than I’ve looked forward to any tour.”
“I don’t know if it’s because of my age or just knowing it’s a special time with it being 40 years but I want to just get out there again.”
The band has just released their new album ‘Rock or Bust’ but Johnson says that fans can still expect to hear plenty of their favourite AC/DC classics.
“When we start a new tour we never do more than two or three songs off a new album because people always feel comfortable at gigs with stuff they know,” said the front-man.
“I went to see an act a long time ago and all he did was play his new album and nobody knew it. It was boring. “
As well as classic hits from the past 40-years fans will also be treated to the antics of school uniform clad Young.
And Johnson believes the way the guitarist goes from mild mannered man off-stage to extrovert performer on stage to be one of the greatest transformations in rock and roll.
“Angus is Clark Kent,” said Johnson with a chuckle.
“Before the gig Angus will be sitting there with a cup of tea and just talking.
“Then Big Tim will come in and say, ‘you’ve got 30 minutes lads, let’s get going’ and Angus will disappear around a corner, put his suit on.
“It’s just this amazing transformation from Clark Kent to Superman.
“It’s just brilliant to watch because there’s never a night where I’ve seen him come out and go, ‘ah I’m kind of tired tonight’ it just never happens.”
So what inspires such a change in the man who spent much of this interview quietly keeping himself to himself?
Young reveals that his powers come from his outfit.
“I’m a strange bird,” admits Young, “when I used to watch Superman as a kid I would say, ‘he’s flying because of that suit, it’s got to be that suit’.
“So I quickly made a papier-mâché sort of suit, got on top of this outhouse toilet and I jumped.
“Of course gravity worked.”
