Vitality North London Half Marathon to run through Wembley
Wembley Stadium connected by EE is the second sporting venue to be added to the much anticipated half marathon race route.
Runners of the event, taking place on Sunday 15th March 2015 will run through Wembley Stadium en route and the race will also start and finish at Allianz Park, home of Saracens Rugby Club promising a unique “stadium to stadium” sporting experience.
The course has been designed to take participants on a tour through the leafy streets of beautiful North London.
Runners will experience an undulating closed road traffic-free race through the borough of Barnet, and on towards Wembley and the borough of Brent.
The Vitality North London Half Marathon will incorporate the interior of Wembley Stadium as part of its route, before leading participants back to Allianz Park for an epic stadium finish, and a well-earned winner’s medal!
Jamie Warren, Head of Marketing and Commercial at GO2, said: “This is set to be a real stand out half marathon in the running calendar, designed with race experience in mind. The integration of both stadiums is particularly special, and will allow runners to experience two of the areas most loved sporting venues from a very unique perspective.
“From start to finish, you are guaranteed some sights and experiences to keep you motivated throughout the course. Taking place exactly six weeks before the London Marathon, we also anticipate that many full marathon runners in training will take the opportunity to use the Vitality North London Half Marathon to enjoy a different side of London in preparation for the popular April event.”
Jim Frayling, Head of Business Development at Wembley Stadium, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting the Vitality North London Half Marathon at Wembley Stadium. We’re all about great events that inspire memories and we hope this is a memorable event for all the participants.
“We share an extremely strong and fruitful relationship with Saracens and to be able to work with them on a completely new event, while using GO2’s expertise in running events, is a fantastic opportunity for us all.”
Gordon Banks, Stadium Director at Allianz Park, said: “The Vitality North London Half Marathon will provide the people of Barnet, Brent and North London with a world-class running event that they can be proud of. As well as being home to Saracens and Shaftsbury Barnet Harriers athletics, Allianz Park has become a popular hub for community sport and engagement, and the Vitality North London Half Marathon will provide many further opportunities for local people to keep fit and stay healthy. With our partners GO2, Wembley Stadium and the London Boroughs of Barnet & Brent, we have created a unique route that will provide runners with a memorable experience.”
GO2 will also be introducing the Schools’ Challenge as part of the race day activities; a 12 week programme where pupils from local schools are encouraged to run a mile a week leading up to the half marathon. The final mile takes place on race day in front of thousands of spectators with the children receiving their very own goody bag and Vitality North London Half Marathon medal! The concept has proved to be a great success as part of other GO2 events, and is the perfect way to inspire the younger generation to take up the sport of running.
The event is part of the Vitality Run Series, a major new annual running series featuring eight half marathons and one 10k event throughout 2014/15. Speaking for PruHealth and PruProtect, Neville Koopowitz, CEO, Vitality, commented: “We are very excited to be adding this new event to our Vitality Run Series today and getting even more people involved.
