Few things in life are likely to prove more intimidating to a footballer than facing the nation’s media at Wembley Stadium connected by EE.

What could be scarier than sitting in front of a room full of journalists, being quizzed and having them listen intently to your every word?

On Monday morning Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey found out as he sat down for a Wembley press conference - not populated by accredited members of the media - but rather the eight year old players from Larkspur Rovers Juniors.

And Ramsey admitted afterwards that the youngsters’ questions were just as probing as those he was used to getting from the press.

“It was quite nerve-wracking but I thought they did a great job,” the Wales midfielder told Wembleystadium.com.

“The questions they asked surprised me a bit but it was good fun and we all enjoyed ourselves.”

Ramsey was at Wembley as McDonald’s football ambassador as they announced a new four-year partnership with The Football Association.

As part of the programme McDonald’s will be giving over 7,000 accredited clubs with a junior team, the opportunity to order a brand new strip every year for the next four seasons.

The result of this is that over 250,000 kits could be distributed to clubs across the UK.

Ramsey admits it is a cause he is extremely proud to be a part of.

“It’s a great cause,” he continued. “A lot of kids at grassroots level will get quality kits for the next four years and I’m sure they will really appreciate that. It’s been a great and enjoyable day.”

It is nothing new for Ramsey to be putting smiles on faces at Wembley of course.

The last time the midfielder visited the national stadium he struck the dramatic extra-time goal that won Arsenal The FA Cup - a goal he admits he may have viewed once or twice since.

“I’ve watched the goal a few times”, he said with a smile.

“It was a really special moment for me. It capped off a great season and hopefully I can hit the ground running again this season.”

That goal also booked Arsenal a berth in Sunday FA Community Shield at Wembley - where they will face Premier League champions Manchester City.

Sunday’s game is the traditional curtain raiser to the season and Ramsey said the Gunners intend to start as they mean to go on.

“Sunday is the start of the season for us. We want to win this,” a determined Ramsey told us.

“This will set our season up so it’s an important game for us and we won’t be taking it lightly.”

“We want to continue the success we enjoyed last season and improve on it as well.”

Gunners fans will need little reminding that their FA Cup win in May ended a 9 year wait for a trophy.

But now that particular monkey is off their back Ramsey is certain that success can further breed success.

“Prior to that FA Cup win in May everyone would say ‘Arsenal haven’t won a trophy for 9 years’ but no we’ve finally put that to bed and we want to be successful for many more years to come.

“Hopefully the cup win last season can be the springboard for us to go on and achieve more.

“Two trophies from two Wembley visits would be a very nice return and that’s what we are be looking to do.”
