UEFA's busy Champions Week in London kicks off with a bang today as it takes over Trafalgar Square for three days. The UEFA Champions League and UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies will pay a visit to the central London landmark ahead of this week’s European club finals and the set-up will include a football pitch and a unique 3D UEFA Champions League projection.

The Trafalgar Square takeover, running from Wednesday to Friday, is part of a week-long programme across London which includes the annual UEFA Champions Festival (Stratford, 23–26 May), the UEFA Women’s Champions League final (Stamford Bridge, 23 May) and the UEFA Champions League final (Wembley, 25 May).

Visitors to Trafalgar Square will be able to purchase UEFA merchandise and have an exclusive picture taken in the UEFA photo booth on a Wembley Stadium background, which is uploaded on the official UEFA Google+ channel (google.com/+UEFA.com) and can be shared with friends.

The spectacular 3D show at Trafalgar Square is packed with music with special effects based on novel mapping technology and projected on a surface imitating a football stretched flat. The 3D multimedia projection will bring to life some of the most iconic moments in European Cup history since the competition kicked off in 1955, including a tribute to some of the competition’s legendary figures - Di Stéfano, Eusébio, Bobby Charlton; Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Platini, Maldini and Raúl Gonzalez - and the winning clubs.

More recent events will also be featured, with a look back at how this year’s finalists made it to Wembley. The projection will be shown three times a day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 9.30pm, 10pm and 10.30pm.

UEFA Champions League legend Christian Karembeu and Kim Little, voted the 2012/13 women’s player of the year by the Professional Footballers Association, will officially kick off UEFA’s week in London on Wednesday morning at 9.15am at Trafalgar Square. As part of the adidas Champions League Trophy Tour, the UEFA Women’s Champions League and UEFA Champions League trophies will be at Trafalgar Square until 11am.

Other entertainment on Wednesday includes demonstrations from some of the best football freestylers in the world, ahead of the World Freestyle Football Championships, taking place at the UEFA Champions Festival on Sunday.

On Thursday at Trafalgar Square futsal legends Ricardinho and Javier Rodriguez will be showing off their skills and teaching people how to do their tricks, while on Friday former UEFA Champions League winner Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be take centre stage at Trafalgar Square to preview Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final.
