“Gelling has been given his shot at Wigan and I think he’s shown what he can do,” said Lulia. “He’s well known over here now, and I hope more Cook Islanders are given that chance.

“As for me, I just really hope I can make the initial squad. I know my form for Bradford this year will play a huge part, so I’ll just concentrate on getting my head down and producing my best form at club level.

“Either way, I’d like to think we have a pretty good chance of reaching the quarter-final stage.”

On Sunday, Warrington will take on Hull FC at the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield, where co-hosts England will entertain rivals Ireland on November 2.
