Wembley to celebrate 90th anniversary weekend with the local community
Residents of Brent are being invited to join the 90th anniversary celebrations at Wembley Stadium on the weekend of April 27th and 28th, with the stadium opening its doors for a series of unique tours around the iconic landmark.
As part of Wembley’s 90th celebrations, and also The Football Associations 150th anniversary, local people are being offered the chance to go on a guided tour of the stadium for just £1.50 (usual price £16 for adults and £9 for children and Seniors) to learn more about the inspiring moments, legendary events and people that have made Wembley a much loved icon in England and around the world.
The special behind the scenes Wembley Tour includes the chance to visit the players’ dressing room and walk through the player’s tunnel into the iconic stadium. Also includes a new exhibition celebrating 150 years of the game featuring football artefacts including the original FA Rule Book written in 1863, trophies including the Jules Rimet Trophy famously lifted by Bobby Moore after winning the 1966 FIFA World Cup and a timeline telling the story of the game from 1863 to the modern day.
There are 5,000 places available on a first-come-first-served basis over the two days, which can be booked by visiting www.wembleystadium.com/tours.
Roger Maslin, managing director at Wembley Stadium, said: “With 2013 marking Wembley’s 90th anniversary as well as the 150th anniversary of The FA, we wanted to give the residents of Brent the opportunity to celebrate with us.
“The local community has played a crucial role in the history of the stadium so we were keen for them to be a part of our anniversary. Whether they’ve been to Wembley before or not, we hope they take the opportunity to come over the weekend and learn more about the unique history of the stadium.”
Wembley has hosted countless famous events throughout its history, from England’s glorious 1966 FIFA World Cup victory through to Live Aid, regarded as the most iconic moment in music, in 1986.
The official tour of the stadium provides people with a unique opportunity to hear all the stories of the events and people that have ‘played’ Wembley from the expert tour guides. It also gives people the chance to go behind-the-scenes by visiting the England changing room, sitting in the dugout and climbing the 107 steps to the world renowned Royal Box.
Brent Residents can book their tour (subject to availability) by visiting www.wembleystadium.com/tours and using their postcode in capital letters (removing any spaces) as the offer code/password.
