Wembley To Host London 2012 Football Tournament Draw

Today sees Wembley Stadium play host to the London 2012 Football Tournament Official Draw.

Today sees Wembley Stadium play host to the London 2012 Football Tournament Official Draw.

Taking place in The FA’s prestigious Bobby Moore Suite, the event will be hosted by FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke and former England striker Gary Lineker.

Picking out the balls includes Brazilian legend - and former Olympic bronze medallist - Ronaldo plus England Women’s all-time leading goal-scorer Kelly Smith.

Lord Sebastian Coe will make a speech on behalf of LOCOG before the official draw commences at approximately 11.20am. The women’s group stage draw will be followed by the men’s group stage draw and is televised live on BBC TWO from 11am.

Following the ceremonies, Team GB Head Coaches Stuart Pearce and Hope Powell will conduct a formal press conference alongside BOA Chef de Mission Andy Hunt.

Other sports dignitaries attending tomorrow’s draw include Minister for Sport and the Olympics, the Right Honourable Hugh Robertson MP, FA Chairman David Bernstein, BOA Chairman Lord Moynihan, BOA Director of Sport Sir Clive Woodward, Premier League Chairman Sir Dave Richards, Mrs Stephanie Moore and Sir Bobby Charlton.

The tournament kicks off on 25th July with six cities across Great Britain hosting men and women’s matches until the Finals at Wembley Stadium concluding on 11th August.
