Wembley Stadium has confirmed the appointment of Gwyn Burr and Coline McConville to its Board of Directors.

The two new Non-Executive Directors have been appointed as Wembley looks forward to the fifth anniversary of its official re-opening this May.

With 15 years of experience at Board level in an executive capacity and more than eight years in a non-executive capacity, Burr has vast experience in the retail sector notably with Sainsbury’s and Asda.  She is regarded as one of the industry’s leading ‘customer champions’ and has served on the Boards of three FSA-regulated companies. Burr has been internationally recognised for her strong leadership on environmental issues as well as community and employee engagement. She is also a long-standing Club Wembley member.

McConville has more than two decades’ involvement at Board level as a non-executive director and in an executive capacity, having graduated from University of New South Wales Law School and furthering her education at Harvard Business School. Well regarded in the global media industry through her work as the Chief Operating Officer of Clear Channel, she has also sat on the Boards of HBOS, Shed Media and TUI Travel.

The appointments were approved by parent company The Football Association and underline the significant progress being made by the stadium as a world-renowned organisation.

The UEFA Champions League Final is due to return in May 2013, as The FA marks its 150th anniversary, after successfully staging the event in 2011.  It is the first time UEFA has re-awarded the prestigious match to the same venue in such a short space of time.  As well as football, the stadium continues to attract global music and sporting events, with the NFL agreeing a new exclusive five-year commitment until 2016.

Wembley’s business vision aims to offer the best stadium experience in the world and these appointments to the Board - with their collective expertise - will assist the delivery of this objective.  The stadium aims to create the best calendar of events and further develop this successful business model.

As a former Wembley Chairman and in my present role, I know how important the Stadium is to the future growth of The FA.  I am also delighted that we have been able to build on the appointment earlier this year of Heather Rabbatts as the first female FA Board member, and the arrival of Julie Harrington last month as the Managing Director of our new national football centre at St. George’s Park. It is important that The FA and its prime asset Wembley have strong and diverse leadership.”
