The UEFA Champions League Trophy was handed over by UEFA to the host city for this season's final, London, at a special ceremony at the Guildhall yesterday (Wednesday, 20 April.)

UEFA President, Michael Platini, handed over the trophy to Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, as the climax of the ceremony in the Great Hall.

The host city will keep hold of the silverware and display it to the public during a trophy tour in the build-up to the UEFA Champions League final a Wembley Stadium on Saturday 28 May.

The handover event was attended by the chairman of the FA, David Bernstein, together with the Lord Mayor of London, Michael Bear and Francesco Toldo and Luis Figo, from last year's winning team Inter Milan.

After the handover event, the Champion's League Trophy began a trophy tour that will include 13 visits to venues across London between 20 April and 21 May.

The European club game's most prestigious prize will be joined on the tour by the UEFA Women's Champion League Trophy, which will be presented to the winner of that competition's final, being played at Craven Cottage in London on Thursday 26 May.

Various parts of the city, from Heathrow to Canary Wharf, will be treated to a glimpse of both trophies, which will be transported in a special kitted out London taxi.

The tour will end when the UEFA Champion's League Trophy and its women's equivalent are delivered to London's Hyde Park for the opening ceremony of the UEFA Champion's Festival on Saturday 21 May.
