Paula Radcliffe, marathon world record holder, launched Nike+ Human Race, the world’s largest one day running event on Tuesday 6 May at Wembley Stadium. The race, on 31 August, will see up to one million runners across the globe competing in a 10k race. GB team captain, Paula Radcliffe, will be leading 30,000 Brits as they ‘Run for Britain’ against 25 different global cities. 30,000 runners and 10,000 guests will pack Wembley Stadium for spectacular pre-race live sets from Moby, Pendulum and Carl Craig.

The record breaking day will see up to one million runners from across the globe compete in a 10k race with each country striving to achieve the best time. The first race will kick off in Taipei, Taiwan and the last race end in LA all on 31 August 2008. Race courses will take runners via iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris and Taipel 101 in Taiwan.

In London runners will start the race from inside England’s most iconic sporting venue, Wembley Stadium, following a live music concert before crossing the finish line at Olympic Way (Wembley Way). Similar live gigs will take place in competing race countries around the world to energise and entertain runners before the race.

GB team captain, Paula Radcliffe speaking from the Wembley launch said: “This is a unique opportunity for Britain’s runners of all levels to unite and compete in a record breaking race with the chance to be named the fastest nation in the world.”

Those who live outside London can represent their country via nikeplus.com, by taking part in the “Virtual Race”. Runners can simply use Nike+ iPod or the new Nike+ SportBand to track their kilometres on race day and then download their run on nikeplus.com to have their results officially counted as part of the race.

To be part of the GB team, Nike+ users can sign up this week, while non-Nike+ users can register for the race via www.nikeplus.com. A proportion of the registration fee will be donated to one of four charities UNHCR, Livestrong, WWF and local charity Fairbridge.
