Day two of the EFL play off weekend at Wembley saw Rotherham United come up against Shrewsbury Town for the chance to be promoted to the EFL Championship.
Things started off with a bang for Rotherham as they were awarded a penalty after only 8minutes, Skipper Wood being wrestled to the ground by Heckles. David Ball stepped up but saw his penalty palmed away by the strong wrists of Henderson in the Shrewsbury net.
The score remained all square until the half hour mark, when Rotherham captain Wood, again shaking off the attention of Heckles broke free and powered his header in to back of the net.
Despite Rotherham having the better of the first half, the score remained only 1-0 after they failed to capitalise on some good chances in front of goal.
With the game at 1-0 Shrewsbury knew they were always in with a chance of getting back in to the match, and this soon became a reality when, on the hour mark they executed an outstanding set piece to draw the game level. Rodman finished well following a clever free-kick that had clearly come straight from the training ground.
The game remained at a deadlock and it took extra time to find a winner.
Step forward Rotherham captain, Wood. Again, the inspirational leader stole in at the back post to fire Rotherham in front. A real poachers finish and the centre-half’s second of the game.
Shrewsbury Town were unable to come from behind a second time despite throwing all they had at the cause.
The game finished 2-1 in favour of Rotherham and promotion was confirmed.
