Barbarians v South Africa

Thriller at Wembley as South Africa battle back to draw 31-31 with the Barbarians

It was an outstanding game of rugby which saw the Springboks drag themselves back from 31-19 to rescue a late draw in a 10 try match at a chilly Wembley Stadium. Francois Venter and Rohan Janse van Rensburg were the heroes for the Springboks as they each scored tries at the death to complete the comeback and leave the scores tied at full time.

The Barbarians arguably had the better of the 1st half and went in to the break 17-12 to the good. However the Boks flew out of the traps in the second half in what was a very even contest between two excellent teams. Despite their strong start to the second half South Africa found themselves going in to the final 10 minutes trailing the Baa-Baas 31-19.

Step forward Venter & van Rensburg.

Venter cut the lead to five points with nine minutes remaining on the clock and then, in the 77th minute van Rensburg powered his way through as he went in at the corner to tie the match and leave the scores locked at 31-31 at full time.
