Capital FM Summertime Ball

Capital Summertime Ball

Well Capital FM promised their ‘most insane line-up ever’ and, on a warm summer’s day at Wembley, the 2015 Capital Summertime Ball certainly delivered.

From the moment One Direction took to the stage, exactly a year on from their first gig at the national stadium, every one of the huge Wembley crowd knew they were in for something special.

Just as they had 12 months earlier, One Direction shook Wembley to its core closing with ‘Best Song Ever’ but, despite the bar being set so high, the other acts just picked up where Harry, Louis, Liam and Niall left off.

It is hard to pick highlights from a show which went on to deliver heavy hit after heavy hit but Little Mix’s first live performance of ‘Black Magic’ certainly had the crowd on its feet.

As did Jason Derulo whose clean white shirt and trouser combo may win the award of the most summery attire worn by any act.

The longest and most dramatic entrance went to Pitbull who scrolled a personal bio on the big screens, sent on scantily clad dancers and even had a little ‘Pretty Woman playing before finally making his arrival on stage to a huge reception.

The sing-along-star of the day was Olly Murs who not only got the crowd singing but even got them to chant the name of his new single.

As the evening drew in the temperature dropped but the entertainment remained red hot.

Ariana Grande’s arrival on stage was met with a roar of approval, the guys in the stadium showing the girls who had screamed themselves hoarse for One Direction and Nick Jonas that they had vocal ability too.

There was still time for a surprise on the agenda, as penultimate act Neyo’s set drew to a close suddenly Pitbull’s voice came over the speakers and a leather clad Mr Worldwide raced onto the stage.

As last year though it was down to a DJ act to steal the show at the last.

Avicii rattled through his wonderful array of hits and treated us to a stunning lights show before bringing down the curtain on a great day at Wembley Stadium.
