It is often said that the word ‘legend’ is used when it is not warranted and after an epic two hour set AC/DC may have created a whole new standard for that term.
This was a show that was nothing short of epic, from the band’s entrance which saw fireworks and a video depicting the AC/DC logo being discovered burnt into the moon, to the show’s highlight where 80,000 people leapt about singing ‘You Shook Me All Night Long’.
That track was a fitting high point because that’s exactly what the legends of rock did.
Not only were the fans shaken but Wembley itself shook to its core as classic after classic was belted out by a band who showed why they are capable of spanning five different decades and can still pack out the biggest stadium the UK has to offer.
The timeless nature of the band is wonderfully epitomised by lead guitarist Angus Young.
A more aptly named man there has never been as he leapt about the Wembley stage with an energy and athleticism which belied his 60 years of age.
Young was as energetic from first chord to last and the only thing he lost over the course of the night were items of clothing ending the night shirtless but, thankfully, still sporting his bright red shorts.
As darkness descended on the stadium it became a vision with the Wembley arch glowing red and thousands of flashing red devil horns in the crowd below to compliment it.
In between the two stood Young on a raised platform crashing out a phenomenal twenty minute guitar solo which had to be heard to be believed before strumming what, he thought, was the final chord only for the crowd to scream for more.
The band left the stage shortly after that seminal moment, the fans baying for their return.
Naturally rock’s greatest entertainers didn’t disappoint retaking the stage to play one of their greatest hits, ‘Highway To Hell’.
Then, all that was left was for AC/DC to go out the way they came in, with a bang!
Literally in fact, a volley of cannon fire brought to close a night which will enter the history books as one of the greatest this stadium has ever seen.
