2013

The Wanted kicked off the 2013 Summertime Ball in style with a hit packed set in front of a packed 80,000 fans in Wembley.

Opening with their debut single 'All Time Low', the group bounced around the stage and were in high spirits, smiling and waving to the screaming fans. Next up was 'Chasing The Sun' to get the crowd jumping as the boys, minus Nathan, upped the tempo!

Jay then took a moment to dedicate 'I Found You' to Nathan, who everyone thought was still recovering from throat surgery. He then rose from the middle of the stage to surprise everyone for his solo in 'I Found You'. The boys then closed their set with Follow The Sun.

After being introduced by host Justin Timberlake, Ellie Goulding was up next and she opened her set with 'Anything Could Happen'. Clearly in high spirits, she was jumping to the beat while hitting the high notes. If the crowd weren't already jumping along, next up was Starry Eyed, where Ellie showed off her long blonde locks, head-banging along to the performance.

The star was only a little out of breath as she introduced her final song, 'I Need Your Love', managing to shout "Have an amazing time!" to the audience before launching headlong the chart hit.

Making their Summertime Ball debut, Disclosure then wowed the crowd with their trademark bass lines and catchy tunes. The duo surprised the crowd the moment they stepped on stage, with a collaboration with Eliza Doolittle for a performance of You and Me.

As the duo manned the decks, singer Sam Smith arrived on stage to perform 'Latch' from Disclosure’s debut album, 'Settle'. The crowd went wild as the brothers finished their set with a bang, performing White Noise with AlunaGeorge, before singer Aluna Francis took over for 'Attracting Flies'.

Labrinth helped kick the Summertime Ball 2013 into high-gear with a colourful performance which began with an uplifting rendition of his song 'Express Yourself', which saw the singer-songwriter whipping the crowd into a frenzy as he ran back and forth on the Wembley stage. "Do you mind if I take it old school Wembley?" Labrinth asked before ending the song with an impressive guitar solo, then launching into his hit song 'Let The Sun Shine'.

Labrinth then caused the 80,000 strong audience to really go crazy when he introduced The X Factor UK's Ella Henderson to duet with him on 'Beneath Your Beautiful'. The UK star wrapped up a crowd-pleasing set by making everyone jump up and down to his dancefloor smash 'Earthquake'.

Opening with 'Gentleman', the audience were then ready to get down with PSY and let themselves loose. He then stayed on the huge middle stage on his own and took a moment to address the crowd. "When I was 14, I watched Queen at Wembley Stadium and was inspired to make music," he said. "This is my dream!" He then challenged the crowd to a dance off as he performed his famous hit 'Gangnam Style' so everyone rose to the challenge and the stadium was literally shaking!

Rizzle Kicks set the tone right from the off with 'When I Was A Youngster', encouraging the 80,000-strong crowd to wave their arms along to the music. Jordan and Harley seemed relaxed as they checked their fans were enjoying the set, asking "Are you guys good?" before launching in to their 2011 hit 'Down With The Trumpets'.

Despite worrying Psy would steal the show with his trademark dance moves, there was no need for the boys to feel threatened - the crowd went wild as they closed their set with the incredible 'Mama Do The Hump'.

Lawson marked their second time at the Summertime Ball with a triumphant set full of surprises. It was recent single 'Learn To Love Again' - which literally got the set off to a bang – complete with pyrotechnic explosion.

"Good evening, how you all doing?" screamed Andy before a cover of 'Don't You Worry Child'. The band added a rockier edge to the dance track as the fans put their arms in the air and cheered along to sing the huge chorus of the track.

The boys kept the surprises coming as they brought US rapper B.o.B on stage for their new single 'Brokenhearted'. The band also broke into a new rendition of the rapper's hit 'Airplanes' with the band then bringing it all back into their own hit. The group then closed with smash hit 'Standing On The Dark'.

Time for the Breakers section of the show where new acts play their debut single. X Factor winner James Arthur encouraged the crowd to wave along with 'Impossible', keeping it simple until the final chorus when the stage lit up with fireworks.

Next came the Loveable Rogues, fresh from supporting Olly Murs on his sell-out tour, performing 'What A Night'. The crowd sang along as Charlie Brown slowed down the tempo with a powerful rendition of 'On My Way', before Naughty Boy and Sam Smith finished the set with 'La La La'.

The Saturdays made sure to bring a bit of summer spice to the Wembley stage when they got everyone jumping for their opening track 'All Fired Up'. The UK girl band made a big impact in colourful outfits and energetic dance routines as they were cheered on by the thousands in attendance.

The girls then broke into 'Forever Is Over' with explosions of pyrotechnics, heading out to the front of the main stage to get up close with some of their fans, before bringing things up to date with a performance of their new hit 'Gentleman'. The Saturdays then rounded out their set with 'What About Us', making sure there was no one in the crowd who wasn't singing along.

Olly Murs then launched into 'Army Of Two' after jumping from below the floors to the delight of the crowd. He then asked "Who's ready to dance with me?" before treating the crowd to 'Dance With Me Tonight'. "Olly, Olly, Olly," chanted the crowd as they wanted more and they got their wish in the form of debut single 'Please Don't Let Me Go'.

'Dear Darlin' offered a tender moment with Olly asking the crowd to share the love and cuddle up to one another before getting the crowd jumping as he hit the first notes of 'Heart Skips A Beat' with the Rizzle Kicks boys joining him half way through. The set was finished with a rocking performance of 'Troublemaker'.

Taking over the stage from Olly Murs, Duke Dumont kept the energy high with his set. The British DJ and producer looked calm in front of the huge Wembley crowd, waving his arm along with the music and playing keyboard. Singing with MNEK, A*M*E danced on stage as she sang, encouraging the audience to sing along to the huge dance track.

Union J threw in a curveball when they kicked off their set with Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' hit, making sure everyone at the venue joined them in dancing along with the 'Call Me' hang sign.
The band then launched straight into brand new debut single 'Carry You', which got everyone singing along as the boys jumped around and made sure the crowd was right there with them, performing from up high on a giant stage in the centre of Wembley.

Jessie J kicked off her set with a performance of her fan-favourite song 'Price Tag', and got Wembley up and dancing when she brought out B.o.B for the song's rap middle eight. Jessie then broke straight into her David Guetta-featuring hit 'LaserLight', showing off her powerful diva vocals in the process, and hit the high notes right out of the stadium.

The singer-songwriter then moved things up to date by performing recent single 'Wild', the first song from her brand new studio album. The UK superstar then bought her set to a close with one of her most popular tracks 'Domino', and thanked everyone at Wembley for coming out and supporting her for the show.

Taking over the Wembley Stadium stage from Jessie J, Rudimental gave the crowd a clue as to what they might be performing, kicking off their two-song set by shouting: "We've been 'Waiting All Night' for you London!"

Before giving the fans time to recover from a buzzing performance with Ella Eyre, out came the trumpet for a brassy performance of last year's smash hit, 'Feel The Love'. The entire stadium rose to their feet as the beat dropped and the crowd danced to the catchy tune.

There were robots, dance routines straight out of a sci-fi movie and a visual show typical of eccentric star Will.i.am. He wowed with an array of tracks from his own solo back catalogue ad well as songs made famous by Black Eyed Peas. Opening with '#thatPOWER' - Will joined his backing dancers for the routine from the official video.

The bass inside Wembley had never felt as strong as when Will was behind the decks singing and mixing tracks. During 'I Gotta Feeling' there was an also huge mechanical robot on stage. "How many people are ready to go crazy right about now?" he said before dropping a remix of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. He then went into 'Scream & Shout', and paused for a moment to get the crowd behind him one more time.

After Will.i.am's huge performance host Justin Timberlake emerged from underneath the stage for an impromptu acoustic performance to deafening cheers from the sell-out crowd, beginning with his iconic single ‘Cry Me A River'. Backed by a single guitarist, and playing an acoustic guitar himself, Justin gave an emotional stripped-back performance of the song with his epic vocals on true display.

The 'Mirrors' singer went on to include snippets from some of the biggest songs in music history including 'Ain't No Sunshine' and 'Heartbreak Hotel', before asking the audience if they want to hear "another one".

When the crowd overwhelming responded positively Justin gave a cheeky smile before launching into a performance of 'What Goes Around... Comes Around'. Justin Timberlake then rounded off his surprise performance by belting out a round of his recent single 'Mirrors' which the audience obligingly sang along with the US superstar.

Taylor Swift kicked off her set with a performance of her latest single '22', backed by a host of colourful dancers racing around the stage and bringing plenty of attitude with her for the care-free summer hit.
The US star then broke straight into her anthemic hit single 'I Knew You Were Trouble', making sure each and everyone in the crowd belted the words back right back to her, before calming things down for her third song.

Taylor began telling Wembley about her best friend before shocking 80,000 fans by bringing out Ed Sheeran, fresh from supporting her on her 'Red' world tour. The two embraced on the top of the stage before going on to give an endearingly earnest performance of their brand new single 'Everything Has Changed'.

The country-pop star then rounded off a crowd-pleasing set with her Vodafone Big Top 40 number one 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together', hitting the high notes with vigour and bringing her memorable performance to a close.

Robbie Williams then brought all his years of experience to the Wembley stage to close the 2013 Summertime Ball. The singer was like a caged beast as he made his way on stage with eyes wild and got the crowd roaring along as he entered his layer. He opened the show with his anthemic hit 'Let Me Entertain You'.

"I know you've been here all day but stay with me, let's do this," he said as he introduced Rock DJ. "God bless you Wembley," he added at the climax of recent single 'Be A Boy' and then a quick drum beat paved the way for 'Candy'. He then thanked the remaining members of the 80,000 and encouraged them to think about someone close by as he performed his break-through single 'Angels'.
