A new Wembley Stadium attendance record was established on Friday 14 August as U2's 360 tour rolled into town on the first of their two night booking in Middlesex.
88,000 fans - the highest total for a music event at Wembley - were treated to a typically energetic performance from Ireland's most famous rock n roll band, who were playing at the stadium for the first time since it re-opened in 2007.
U2 managed to strike a perfect balance between old and new, opening with four tracks from their latest album "No Line On The Horizon" before "Beautiful Day" kicked off the collection from their irrefutable back catalogue (at the end of "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" Bono even prompted a rendition of "Stand By Me" which was very well recieved by all present.)
Famed for their live performances (they emerged from a mirrorball lemon during their PopMart tour in the 90s), the giant claw shaped stage at Wembley personified U2's ability to create an unforgettable experience for their followers and the circular stage, accompanied by a 36 screen, granted the whole audience an equal view of the band.
A two hour set did not obviously allow for U2 to play all of their better known tracks, but the highlights included "(Bad)", "One", "Until The End Of The World", and "Get On Your Boots", though each one of Wembley's 170,000 revellers will no doubt have extracted their own best bits from these two truly memorable shows.
