World Cup legends and top celebrities went head to head in an England versus The Rest Of The World football match, as Soccer Aid 2008, in aid of UNICEF and its partners, returned to ITV1.
England, managed by Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp, came away victorious with a 4-3 win over the Rest Of The World and lifted the prestigious Soccer Aid cup for the second time in a row.
Newcastle United and England legend, Alan Shearer, played an instrumental part in sealing success for England - setting up the first goal of the match in the ninth minute for Teddy Sheringham, Shearer went on to score two more goals.
An early goal from Sheringham followed by a brace from England and Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer and a decider from team captain Jonathan Wilkes, sealed the victory over Kenny Dalglish's Rest of the World side. Sheringham's was not the only set back for Kenny Dalglish's Rest of the World side. Moments after Sheringham found the net, Rest of the World captain - Gordon Ramsey hobbled off the pitch with a hamstring injury that had been aggravating him throughout training.
Butit wasn't long before footie legend Paolo Di Canio lifted team spirits as he struck home and levelled the score for the visitors.
Then Shearer was back to put England in the lead once again but it wasn't long before the Rest of the World equalised for a second time thanks to a goal from Sex and the City move actor Gilles Marini just before half time.
The start of the second half saw Di Canio slot the ball straight past golkeeper Jamie Theakston who was subbed in for England legend David Seaman to put The Rest of the World in the lead for the first time in the match.
Again Shearer came to the rescue as he converted a flawless cross from McFly's Danny Jones to equalise.
Moments later it looked like Shearer had managed to notch up a Wembley hat-trick, but the deciding goal was ultimately given to captain Jonathan Wilkes and England's 4-3 victory was secured.
