Dave Grohl performs at Wembley

Dave Grohl admits he’s excited to continue his love affair with London when the Foo Fighters return to Wembley Stadium connected by EE on 19 & 20 June 2015.

Grohl was full of praise for the Foo Fighters’ UK fans and admitted his affection for the English capital ran so deep that he even came close making it his home.

“There was a time [when Grohl thought about living in the UK], I love London so much and I love England,” he told Absolute Radio’s Breakfast Show.

I’ve been coming over here since I was in Nirvana and we’d come over here and play in little pubs and bars and the biggest shows I’ve ever played in my life have been here in England.

“This is kind of the Foo Fighters’ second home.

“This is the country where we’ve had most of our ‘firsts’ and we’ve watched everything grow in this country, going from playing King’s College to the Astoria then to Earls Court, then Hyde Park and then Wembley it has just always stepped up here more than anywhere else.”

Grohl was quick to point out that Wembley has a very special place in his heart and not just for the times he has performed at the national stadium.

The Foo Fighters front man says if his band can emulate one particular Wembley performance in June next year then he will be a very happy man.

“When we go out and play a big show like Milton Keynes or Wembley and people start singing along it’s amazing,” said Grohl.

“When I think of a rock show I think of Queen at Live Aid and it just wipes the floor with everything because Freddie got everyone to sing every word to every song.

When that happens, when you get that many people in one place singing one thing, that will change you.”

Grohl believes it isn’t just the Foo Fighters that fans should be excited about seeing next year.

The band will be supported at Wembley by Iggy Pop and Royal Blood, the latter being a hard-rock duo from Brighton.

And rock legend Grohl believes Royal Blood are certainly one to watch.

“A few months ago I was in my hotel room, I was online and I saw this box that said Royal Blood so I clicked on it and I watched their set and they were so good.

“Then someone told me they had gone to No1 with their record and I thought ‘this is so amazing’.

“I got really excited that there’s hope for heavy rock bands that have catchy songs.”
