Coventry City and Exeter City did battle at a gloriously sunny Wembley Stadium with the prize of a place in League One for the winner.
There was no real clear cut chances to speak of in a tense and nervy first half of football.
Coventry began the 2nd half brightly with a fierce shot from the edge of the box stunning the palms of Exeter ‘keeper Christy Pym.
The Sky Blues then took the lead a minute later as Jordan Willis picked up the ball on the edge of the box and curled a fine effort into the back of the net.
Jordan Shipley make it two nil 5 minutes later and the Coventry City fans were in dreamland.
The goal of the day came in the 67th minute as Jack Grimmer curled an unstoppable shot from the corner of the Exeter box and it nestled perfectly in the top corner. No ‘keeper in the world could have stopped it.
From that moment you knew it was going to be Coventry City’s day although there was still time for a late consolation from Kyle Edwards.
But Exeter were never likely to mount a miraculous comeback and Coventry deservedly reclaimed their spot back in League One for next season.
