Lincoln City might have had to wait 95 years for their first visit to Wembley Stadium but when their time finally came they made it count!
City can now boast a 100% record at the national stadium in stark contrast to their opponents Shrewsbury who have visited Wembley four times now only to be defeated on every occasion.
A first half Elliot Whitehouse goal won it for The Imps but just as many congratulations must go to Ryan Allsop who pulled off one of the great Wembley saves to deny Shrewsbury an equaliser prior to the break.
The Lincoln fans, all 27,000 of them, must have expected a second half on slaught but it never came although the way Danny Cowley leapt about his technical area you would have believed this win was anything other than routine.
That was a reflection of Lincoln's desire to raise this trophy and the delight was palpable as the final whistle went and the West end of Wembley erupted.
So one appearances and one win for The Imps and much like the proverbial busses, with Lincoln sixth in League Two who would bet against them making it two very soon?
