Young players from all over the country experienced the ultimate football adventure on England Football Day, 12 June, by playing on the pitch at the home of football, Wembley Stadium.
The children ran out of the player's tunnel and were tutored on the pitch by The FA's specialist coaches, before sitting down with their families to watch the England V USA game in the Bobby Moore Suite.
Places on the pitch were won through national competitions and at the invitation of The FA. Special guests at Wembley also included celebrities Gary Barlow, Melinda Messenger and former Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies who attended with their budding Beckhams.
The Wembley event was part of The FA's England Football Day campaign, which has been encouraging teams up and down the country to put on football festivals and get more people than ever playing the game, getting into coaching or simply celebrating football during the World Cup. Nationwide, over 300 England Football Day events were organised by teams of all ages and abilities.
On Saturday, the Wembley pitch was divided into nine sections and each area had two coaches running different sessions to develop key skills such as passing, defending and shooting. While the young players were coached on the pitch, their families watched from the stands and were also able to enjoy the action as it was shown on the big screens.
Kelly Simmons, The FA's Head Of National Game Development said: "We were delighted with the clubs response to the England Football Day Campaign, which has received the full support of Fabio Capello and the England team. Across the nation on Saturday, over 300 teams came together to celebrate football and welcome new players and coaches into the game."
Parents joining the young players were given the opportunity to learn more about The FA's Get Into Coaching campaign and find out how they can take their first steps to inspiring the next generation of England players. Once the coaching session was over the young players and their families made their way to the England Football Day themed Bobby Moore Suite for dinner and sat down in front of big screens to cheer on England in their opening World Cup match against the USA, which finished 1 - 1.
