The Killers’ Battle Born world tour had already smashed through arenas and festivals across America, Mexico, Australia, Brazil and Germany this year but tonight’s show at Wembley was different as it was their biggest ever standalone show.

The Killers have always had a special place in their hearts for London, it was here back in 2003 they played their first gig outside of Las Vegas after being recognised by the Lizard King record label.

The Killers confessed before the show it was the culmination of a lot of hopes, dreams and aspirations. Needless to say expectation levels were high but The Killers delivered with an epic two-hour set.

"It's good to have you with us even if it is just for the day," sang lead singer Brandon Flowers before opening with fan favourite When You Were Young and spectacular pyrotechnics.

Spaceman then keeps the energy levels up as Las Vegas oufit proceed to rattle through classics such as Smile Like You Mean It, Human, Somebody Told Me and For Reasons Unknown alongside new tracks like Miss Atomic Bomb, Here With Me and From Here On Out.

“So we wrote a song to commemorate this joyous occasion, you wanna hear it?” asks Brandon Flowers. Turns out it’s a special ode to Wembley namechecking a whole list of the amazing acts who have played here over the years complete with Freddie Mercury call-and-response “day-ohs”!

Their set ends with All These Things That I’ve Done with everyone in the stadium singing along, making the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

After a quick breather they’re back for a four track encore that culminates with an epic jam that launches into probably their most famous track, Mr Brightside and another special singalong.

The crowd bellow for more but all good things must come to an end.
