Wokingham winner on his way to Wembley

16 November 2006

64 year old John Grant from Wokingham got the surprise of his life when he received a call to say that he had won npower's 2006 Club Wembley competition and would be able to watch all major events at the new Wembley Stadium until 2017 from his very own seats!

John had entered a competition organised by npower, Official Energy Supplier to the new Wembley Stadium, to win a pair of Club Wembley seats (worth approximately £85,000) for the next 10 years once the Stadium opens. Club Wembley is an exclusive area within the new Wembley Stadium with its own entrance, cafes, bars and restaurant. The seats John will occupy are some of the best located seats in the Stadium. They are wide, padded and have more legroom than the seats in the old Royal Box. John’s prize entitles him to use his Club Wembley seats for all major sporting events at the new Stadium including The FA Cup Final and FA Cup Semi’s, the Football League Cup Final, the RFL Challenge Cup Final, the FA Community Shield and all of England's home games until 2017. He also has first option on tickets for all concerts and The Football League Play-Offs

John said, "I couldn't believe it when I heard I had won. I decided to enter npower's competition as I had read about the construction of the new Wembley Stadium and really wanted to go as I never had the chance to visit the old Stadium. It's an amazing prize - I enjoy watching sport and supporting Southend United, but to actually have the chance to be at the next ten FA Cup Finals is incredible. It's already made me very popular with my family and friends particularly my daughter who is a passionate England supporter!"

Kevin Peake, head of customer marketing said "This is a fantastic prize and many congratulations to John on being the lucky winner. We are very proud of our association with the new Wembley Stadium - it’s going to be the most exciting place to watch football in the world."

Clive Richards, head of sponsorship at Wembley National Stadium Limited said:

"npower, the UK's leading electricity supplier, will exclusively supply electricity to power the 90,000 seater Wembley Stadium under a renewable electricity deal. As a result, Wembley Stadium will also be the first major UK stadium whose electricity consumption will be matched by 'green energy’ purchased by npower. We are delighted for John and we are sure he will enjoy his many visits to Wembley Stadium".
