Wembley Stadium scheduled events 2006
31st March 2006
The following information details the arrangements for scheduled events at Wembley Stadium for 2006.
Bon Jovi 10 & 11 June
Promoters AEG Live have confirmed that the two June dates, originally planned for Wembley Stadium, will now be taking place in the Milton Keynes National Bowl. To ensure that Bon Jovi’s fans are not disappointed, AEG Live and Bon Jovi have decided to move the shows to Milton Keynes.
“Having closed the original Wembley Stadium, it would have been a fitting honor to open the new one," says Jon Bon Jovi. "However, the most important element was always the live concerts themselves. So while the location may have changed, the celebration will remain the same. Thank you to our fans - for your loyalty and your patience. We'll see you for two great nights of rock 'n' roll at Milton Keynes."
All tickets purchased for Wembley are valid for The National Bowl on the respective dates and thus there will be no rebooking required. All customers will be contacted either by email or letter with further information.
Take That 24 & 25 June
Concerts due to be held at the new Wembley Stadium have been moved because of delays in building work. A spokeswoman for Take That said the band's concerts scheduled at the venue on June 24 and 25 would now take place at the Milton Keynes Bowl.
Rolling Stones 20 & 22 August
Concert promoters for The Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang World Tour, announced today that The Rolling Stones London shows on Sunday, 20th August and Tuesday, 22nd August 2006 will now take place at Twickenham Stadium.
This follows the announcement from Wembley this morning that Wembley Stadium will not be completed in time. Although The Stones are disappointed not to have played the new Wembley they are excited by the switch to Twickenham Stadium which sees them return to the venue they played two sold out shows in 2003 to unprecedented critical acclaim.
The good news for Stones ticket-holders is that the Bigger Bang Concerts will take place on exactly the same dates this summer. All London ticket purchasers will now be issued tickets for Twickenham Stadium. The distribution information will be announced shortly.
RFL Challenge Cup Final 26 August
The RFL today (31.03.06) announced that the venue for the 2006 Challenge Cup Final will be Twickenham.
Rugby League’s governing body had to make the switch after it received formal notice from WNSL (Wembley National Stadium Ltd) that the new national stadium would not be completed in time to stage the game on August 26.
The RFL is confident that the 2006 Powergen Challenge Cup Final will be a success at the changed venue given the sell out crowds that have attended the fixture while it has been on the road since 1999. The decision to move the match to Twickenham will enable supporters to maintain any travel and accommodation plans they may have already made for the Bank Holiday weekend.
The RFL confirmed that all tickets sold to date are transferable to Twickenham. RFL Ticketing will be allocating all current bookings to seats over the next few weeks and contacting supporters by post.
Robbie Williams 14, 15, 16, 18 & 19 September
A spokesman for Robbie Williams said: "Wembley Stadium today announced that they will not be able to accommodate the scheduled run of events for autumn 2006 including the Robbie Williams concerts. Alternative arrangements for Robbie's Wembley dates are being made and an announcement as to the venue will be made as soon as the details are confirmed."
