Live Earth

The show began with Roger Taylor, Taylor Hawkins and Chad Smith leading an orchestra of drums. Next, Genesis took to the stage to perform the classics ‘Behind The Lines’, ‘Turn It On Again’, ‘Land Of Confusion’ and ‘Invisible Touch’. They were followed by Razorlight with ‘Before I Fall To Pieces’, infectious ‘America’ and ‘Los Angeles Waltz’. Snow Patrol then sang ‘Open Your Eyes’, ‘Shut Your Eyes’ and crowd favourite ‘Chasing Cars’.

Damien Rice performed ‘The Blower’s Daughter’ followed by David Gray with his mellow hit, ‘Babylon’. The pair got together to perform a duet of ‘Que Sera, Sera’. Paolo Nutini performed ‘Wonderful World’, ‘Last Request’, ‘New Shoes’ and ‘Jenny Don’t Be Hasty’. Kasabian then raised the tempo with ‘Empire’, ‘Club Foot’ and ‘LSF’. The Black Eyed Peas then performed an energetic set with ‘Let’s Get It Started’, ‘Pump It’, ‘Don’t Phunk With My Heart’, ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ and ‘Where Is The Love?’ followed by John Legend with ‘Ordinary People’.

Duran Duran then played their second gig at Wembley in a week with the fitting ‘Planet Earth’, ‘Ordinary World’, ‘Notorious’ and ‘Girls On Film’. Ultimate rock act Red Hot Chili Peppers then took to the stage for the classics ‘Can’t Stop’, ‘Dani California’, ‘So Much I’ and ‘By The Way’. Bloc Party then performed ‘Banquet’ and ‘So Here We Are’.

Corinne Bailey Rae slowed down the pace with ‘I’d Like To’, ‘Mercy Mercy Me’ with John Legend and ‘Put Your Records On’ followed by Terra Naomi with ‘Say It’s Possible’. Indie favourites Keane performed ‘Somewhere Only We Know’, ‘Is It Any Wonder?’ and ‘Bedshaped’.

A live link up with Hamburg then screened Shakira performing her classic ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ with Wyclef Jean. Metallica warmed up for their gig the next night with ‘Nothing Else Matters’ and ‘Sad But True’. Spinal Tap were joined by many of the day’s bass guitarists for their set, performing ‘Stonehenge’, ‘Warmer Than Hell’ and ‘Big Bottom’.

The melodic sounds of James Blunt filled the stadium with ‘Same Mistake’, ‘Wisemen’ and ‘Wild World’. The next live link up was with the Giants Stadium in New York as Keith Urban and Alicia Keys performed ‘Gimme Shelter’. The Beastie Boys brought the stage to life with ‘Sure Shot’ and ‘Intergalactic’. The Pussycat Dolls provided some glamour for the day with ‘Buttons’, ‘Stickwitu’ and ‘Don’t Cha’.

As night came down on Wembley Stadium, the Foo Fighters stormed out onto stage and got the crowd rocking. The band played an amazing set of ‘Best Of You’, ‘All My Life’, ‘Times Like These’ ‘My Hero’ and ‘Everlong’. The show was brought to a close by the legend, Madonna. She was joined on stage by children to perform ‘Hey You’ – a song written especially for Live Earth. She then performed ‘Ray Of Light’, ‘La Isla Bonita’ and the whole show was brought to a climax with ‘Hung Up’
