The 2008/09 football season opener, The FA Community Shield, takes place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 10 August.

Last year's match between Premier League winners Manchester United and FA Cup winners Chelsea was decided by a penalty shoot out as United won 3-0. The match had finished 1-1 after normal time with goals from Florent Malouda and Ryan Giggs.

Manchester United hold the record for the most wins in this competition, having lifted the Shield 16 times.
