Wembley Stadium and Charities
The Wembley Stadium Charitable Trust: The new stadium will create a major new charitable trust. One per cent of the stadium's annual turnover will be provided to the trust, which will be used to boost the participation in sport and recreation at a national and local level.
The Wembley Charitable Foundation: a foundation that has been disbursing annual grants to performing art students in Brent since 1988, will continue to operate throughout construction of the new Stadium and beyond.
The Foundation, set up in 1988, derived from fines against artists for overrunning on performance time and noise levels at the Stadium and also from donations. The basis of the charity is that this capital sum be invested and that the interest is disbursed each year to young performing arts students in Brent. There are three directors of the Charity (all Wembley National Stadium Ltd senior employees) and an awards panel made up of Brent Council senior employees, WNSL employees and local residents.
