Education Initiatives

WNSL is currently working closely with a number of education partners in particular the DfES, the College of North West London and the North West London Education Business Partnership. Partnering with these organizations is geared to ensure that the young people of Brent benefit from having the national Stadium on their doorstep.

Our close affiliation with the College of North West London allows the sharing of learning experiences across the construction, engineering and catering faculties in particular. Already, with significant involvement from The Building One Stop Shop and Multiplex - the main construction contractor - fantastic initiatives have been realized with the College during the construction phase, including the awarding of bursaries, training opportunities and apprenticeships. The partnership is strengthened through WNSL’s Director of Construction sitting on the College’s forum.

We are also working with local schools in the pioneering of an innovative e-mentoring scheme that allows local school pupils to be mentored via email by staff at WNSL. The E-Mentoring Programme, facilitated by North West London Education Business Partnership, is a new initiative that is aimed at ensuring young people are well prepared and motivated for the world of work. After a successful pilot of the project at Kilburn Park School in 2004, which resulted in the pupils winning an award for their work with Wembley Stadium, the programme has now been rolled out to Preston Park School.

Perhaps the most exciting education initiative that we are working towards is having a permanent Wembley Stadium Study Support Centre within the new Stadium. This all-year round facility would be operated with funding from DfES, Brent Council and WNSL and would be of great appeal to schools from Brent and possibly across the country. Initially targeting 9-14 year olds the centre would be used to improve numeracy, literacy and IT skills.
