Economic Benefits
The new Wembley Stadium will be a major boost to the UK economy and in particular to the local area in Brent. The stadium will create some £229 million of total visitor expenditure each year, both at the stadium and from spending by event visitors in shops, bars, hotels and lesiure facilities in and around the site and elsewhere in London. The exchequer will receive an income of £40 million each year from stadium related activity.
Profits from the Stadium will provide an important new revenue stream for The FA to reinvest in football at every level of the game, a sport which is played regularly by 12 million people in this country alone.
An estimated 7,500 permanent job opportunities will be created by economic activity directly related to the stadium. Approximately 2,000 jobs will be generated during the construction period alone, and Wembley National Stadium Limited and its contractors are working closely with two local employment organisations - Brentin2work and The Building One Stop Shop (BOSS) to ensure that employment opportunitites for local people are maximised - during the construction phase and beyond.
Brentin2Work’s overarching goal is to reduce the high level of unemployment and deprivation that exists within Brent and is funded by Brent Council, the LDA and the European Social Fund. The primary role for BOSS is to assist local people into permanent positions within the construction sector and therefore BOSS work closely with WNSL and Multiplex - the main construction contractor on the Stadium.
