Ferenc PuskasFerenc Puskas

FERENC PUSKAS, Hungary’s “Galloping Major”, was one of the leading players in post-war Europe. As an inside-forward with Honved and the legendary Hungarian national team of the 1950s, he had one of the most powerful left-foot shots ever seen.

He scored 83 goals in 84 appearances for Hungary and they remained unbeaten for four years. He captained the “Mighty Magyars” as they comprehensively beat England 6-3 on a grey November afternoon at Wembley in 1953. Puskas netted twice and it was our first-ever home defeat against Continental opposition.
