England 4 - West Germany 2England 4 - West Germany 2

Alf Ramsey said his England team would win the World Cup and he was proved right on a Wembley afternoon of sunshine and showers in 1966. England won an extraordinary match 4-2 after extra time against West Germany. After the shock of conceding an early goal England got to grips with the game and gradually subdued their lively opponents. Geoff Hurst headed an equaliser from skipper Bobby Moore’s astute free-kick and Martin Peters gave England a lead that they held until the final minute. Ramsey’s team "won it again" in the extra period as Hurst completed the only World Cup Final hat-trick in history.
