Glorious Past

Wembley Stadium has a rich heritage when it comes to staging world-class music events. From Live Aid to Madonna to The Rolling Stones to the Nelson Mandela Tribute concert. Wembley has hosted the biggest and best acts the music industry has had to offer.

The new Stadium will build on this heritage to ensure that it is resurrected as the country's ultimate stage for major music events.

An enormous amount of thought has gone into ensuring that the new Wembley is an even better venue for concerts than the old Stadium. The versatile design of the new Stadium allows the venue to be easily configured to stage major music and entertainment events and the designers have provided a choice of stage locations - but for most events the stage is likely to be 'end on', in the West stand.

Seats retract in both south and west stands allowing a full stage to be built without encroaching on the pitch allowing as many people as possible to see the gig, but also helping maintain the playing surface for football and rugby league.

The higher roofline of the new stadium and a new purpose-built sound system will all reduce the amount of noise 'spillage' from the stadium. This together with state-of-the-art acoustic design of the Stadium will ensure the legendary Wembley atmosphere will be even better.

All spectators will have unbeatable views and there is more legroom in every seat in the new Stadium than there was in the Royal Box of the old Stadium, with the average spectator enjoying 30% more seating space. The Stadium will also have the facilities to cater for the spectators' every need.

The new stadium will have:
  • Three interior concourses, 1 kilometre in circumference
  • Two giant screens the size of 600 domestic television sets
  • A huge public gallery overlooking the Wembley Way
  • Over 2,500 toilets - more than any other stadium in the world
  • 688 food and drink service points

When it opens in 2006 the new Wembley will be an awesome concert venue for performers and concert-goers alike.
