The NFL have today announced a new deal with Wembley which gives the stadium exclusive rights to their International Series games in the UK for the next five years. The first game will see the St. Louis Rams take on the New England Patriots on Sunday 28th October 2012, kick off time is at 5pm GMT.
Wembley Stadium’s Managing Director, Roger Maslin said: “This deal gives Wembley the exclusive staging rights to all overseas NFL games in the UK for the next five years. It cements the extremely positive partnership that exists between Wembley and the NFL and is acknowledgement of Wembley’s position as one of most important and iconic sports venues in the world.
“We have welcomed the NFL, their teams and fans to Wembley for the last five consecutive years and each time our aim has been to improve their experience at the stadium and to enhance the service we provide so they will want to return to our venue again and again. The 2011 game at Wembley was the best yet and we are delighted that the success of this event, combined with our commitment to making improvement year on year, has given the NFL the confidence to expand their presence at Wembley for the next five years.
“This is fantastic news for the NFL and for Wembley and for all fans of American football. We look forward to being the home away from home for the NFL for many years to come.”
Wembley’s Head of Music and New Events Jim Frayling led on the deal with Maslin and said: “The NFL has delivered quality events to Wembley every year since 2007 and we are delighted that this new deal will see us host the International Series games at Wembley Stadium until 2016. By 2016 we will have hosted a decade of American Football at the new Wembley.”
The game between the Rams and Patriots at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 28th October 2012 will be the only NFL contest in the UK next season. Club Wembley tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Tuesday (January 24) via www.ticketmaster.co.uk, with sale of general admission tickets to follow at a later date.
