Coming up is one of the biggest weekends in non-League football as Wembley Stadium hosts the FA Carlsberg Vase Final and the Conference Premier Play-Off Final.

The FA was looking for a permanent home for The FA Cup Final. The ‘Empire Stadium’ at Wembley, which was to be built as a centrepiece of the 1924 British Empire Exhibition, seemed to be ideal in terms of its projected size and its location in north-west London. An agreement was signed after several visits to the site by The FA’s Ground Committee and work on the stadium commenced.

This year Wembley Stadium celebrates its 90th birthday with a blockbuster calendar of events. While the new 90,000 stadium only opened in 2007, it is built on the site of the original Wembley Stadium that first appeared on the north London skyline in 1923.

Sunday 28 April marks the 90th anniversary of Wembley Stadium, the iconic home for countless sports and music events that have created inspiring memories for millions of people around the globe. To kick off the celebrations, England manager Roy Hodgson took to Wembley Way with stadium staff to cut a giant cake made for the world renowned venue.
