For Manchester United manager Matt Busby winning the European Cup was the ultimate ambition. The pursuit of that trophy had claimed the lives of so many of his star players. Now, a decade on from the tragedy, United beat Portuguese champions Benfica 4-1 in the final on an emotional night at Wembley. 60,000 fans had travelled down from Manchester but really United had the whole country behind them.
