EURO 96: England 4 - Holland 1
Terry Venables’ England team trounced the Dutch 4-1 in the last group match of a memorable Euro 96 tournament. They had put on a display of passion and power that left England fans at Wembley feeling high on victory. Alan Shearer slammed in a penalty after Ince had been sent flying in the box on 23 minutes and early in the second half England had a dream-like eleven minutes in which they scored another three times. Teddy Sheringham headed in from Gazza’s corner and set up Shearer for a blistering drive past Van Der Sar. Then it was Tottenham’s Sheringham who notched the fourth on delirious "Orange Night".
