CHARGERS HOLD OFF LATE TITANS COMEBACK TO WIN NARROWLY AT WEMBLEY

The Los Angeles Chargers follow the Seattle Seahawks as they come away with victory in the second of three matches in the 2018 edition of The NFL London Series as they held off a late fight back from the Tennessee Titans  to win 20-19 in front of 84, 301 fans at Wembley Stadium.

Chargers quarter back and man of the match Philip Rivers led the way, with two touchdowns at the start of each half: a 75-yard completion to Tyrell Williams within nine seconds of their first play; then a similar 55 yard effort to Mike Williams at the start of the second.

The Titans were never too far behind however and in a final march down the field late in the fourth quarter, came  to within one point of the Chargers with just 30 seconds to go. Titans coach Mike Vrabel decided to avoid over-time and try to win the game with a two point conversion, which ultimately cost his team the game as the Chargers defence held out. This result leaves the Chargers with a 5-2 record, while the Titans slip to 3-4.

This year’s Wembley games conclude next Sunday when Super Bowl 52 champions the Philadelphia Eagles face the Jacksonville Jaguars. It looked the most promising fixture of this year’s three, but will do well to eclipse Titans - Chargers for late excitement.

Man of the match: Philip Rivers

Attendance: 84,301
