Championship Play Off Final

26 May 2018 - 5:00 PM

Fulham 1 Aston Villa 0

When you've waited 43 years for the chance to play at Wembley it's important to make the most of it and Fulham did just that.

Out of the traps quickly, the West London side were on the front foot throughout a first half and made their dominance pay on 23 minutes.

Ryan Sessegnon's perfectly weighted ball underlined his burgeoning talent and an equally precocious talent tucked it away.

The history books will forever read that Fulham's first ever Wembley goal-scorer was Tom Cairney.

Villa looked shell shocked up until half time but after a half time talking to soon raised their game.

Jack Grealish was at the heart of all positive things the Midlands outfit were doing and Fulham were running out of ideas to stop him.

Unfortunately one attempt to stop the 22 year-old was misguided and mis-timed as Denis Odoi left Grealish on the turf for a second time in the evening and the outcome was the same, a second yellow card.

The ten men retreated but the rear-guard action they presented was heroic.

Villa knocked and knocked at the door but to no avail, Fulham were back in the Premier League.

Players and fans alike celebrated wildly and left Wembley with a beaming smile...perhaps they should visit more often?
