Championship Play Off Final

Huddersfield 0-0 Reading (AET)

Huddersfield win 4-3 on penalties

Some will call this a Championship Play-Off Final that will not live long in the memory but try telling that to a Huddersfield Town fan!

The Terriers gave their fans the day they had dreamed of as they returned to England's top flight for the first time since 1972.

However few would have wished to be put through the wringer in quite the fashion they were as David Wagner's men required a penalty shoot-out to secure promotion.

It didn't need to be like that, Isaiah Brown could have settled the nerves early on with, what looked like, a tap in at the far post but he inexplicably fluffed his lines.

From there it became a game of limited chances and penalties looked on the cards long before they were a reality.

For Huddersfield though the idea of spot kicks should have held no fears after they overcame Sheffield Wednesday from 12-yards in the semi-final but any confidence was soon dashed with only their second kick, Michael Hefele's penalty easily saved by Ali Al-Habsi.

But as well as nerves Reading had a play-off final jinx to contend with having lost their last three and that must have sprung to Royals' minds as Liam Moore ballooned his penalty over the bar.

Danny Ward then saved superbly from Jordan Obita and all that was left was for Christopher Schindler to fire The Terriers into the Premier League.

The German made no mistake from the spot, cue wild celebrations.
