Never a more apt phrase has been uttered than that by Alan Partridge, "come back on ELO and carry on playing".

Because, after a spectacular two hour performance which was a feast for the eyes as well as the ears, that's what we all wanted.

Sadly 69 year-old Jeff Lynne was done for the evening although the music he created wasn't as thousands of fans sang 'Mr Blue Sky' as they headed for Wembley Park tube station.

It was a fitting tribute to a night which left you with a warmth in your heart and a feeling of togetherness engendered by a magnificent shared experience.

A night of bright lights pulled together in a spectacular fashion by a quite brilliant mind alongside the music of an artist so timeless that his 45 years in the business belies the fresh sound of his material.

ELO played hit after hit, each filling you with a nostalgic joy which had many of the crowd roaring to the Wembley rafters with delight and baying for the next one.

All of which climaxed with the classic 'Mr Blue Sky' which had everyone on their feet and singing loudly to the point where the band almost didn't need to play.

They did but when they stopped the crowd continued where they left off singing lyrics which summed up the feelings of all who had the pleasure of being at Wembley tonight.

Hey there, Mr. Blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around, see what you do
Everybody smiles at you
